What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse (RN) PACU Pediatric Sedation position at Inova Health System?
The Pediatric Sedation Services unit is looking for an experienced nurse to join their team. This is a Full-time 40 hours/week, day shift position. Schedule: 3x12 shifts to cover: Pediatric Sedation Service (majority of our patient population are oncology patients) Will also cross train and float to Pediatric PreOp/Recovery and Radiology.
This unit provides holistic care for infants through 18 years old who are undergoing procedures that require moderate or deep sedation. We work closely with our hematology-oncology as well as anesthesia providers to provide care prescribed by the protocols required by their illness. Additional patient populations include sedated hearing tests, EEG, Echocardiogram, Liver and Renal Biopsy, biotherapy and chemotherapy infusions, and blood product transfusions. Nurses could also see PICC line placements, painful re-castings, wound dressing changes and lumbar punctures. All staff is cross trained to the Pediatric Pre-op and PACU.
The department has two locations: the first within the Pediatric Surgery Center at Inova Fairfax Medical Center (IFMC), the second is located in the Inova Schar Cancer Institute (ISCI). All staff are cross-trained and required to float between both locations. The IFMC location is open 0730-1900 (7p) M-F. The ISCI 0730-1600 (4p) M-F

RN PACU Qualifications
- One year of critical care (ICU or ED) or PACU RN experience is required.
- Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
- RN license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- BLS healthcare provider certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) required at hire
Pediatric Sedation PACU preferred qualifications:
3 or more years in Pediatric acute care nursing experience
will need to complete Biotherapy Certification within first year
Current PALS/ACLS certification
