What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Technician position at Inotiv and Careers?
On a typical day, the Behavior Technician will contribute to the Envigo team by:
- Regularly conducting behavioral assessments of newly arrived and colony animals.
- Assist with animal socializations into pairs or groups and complete related documentation.
- Assist with monitoring of newly formed pairs, social groups and breeding groups.
- Recognize abnormal or stereotypic behaviors and implement tailored enrichment plans provided by the behavior manager and veterinary team.
- Implement, track and document plans
- Implement shaping plans to prepare animals for research procedures (reduce fear, cooperative feeding, target training, etc.)
- Maintain documentation as needed
- Work closely with the veterinary and animal care staff to ensure proper animal care standards are maintained
- Propose new ideas, as needed, for socialization strategies and tailored enrichment plans
To be successful in this role, this position requires that the Behavior Technician brings:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
- AALAS Certification preferred or should be obtained within the first year of employment
- Computer skills: proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with a wide variety of personnel
- Work in inclement and extreme temperatures Holiday, weekend or “off hour” work may be required
