Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor chemical processing equipment.
    • Monitor gauges, recording instruments, flowmeters, or products to ensure that specified conditions are maintained.
    • Drain equipment, and pump water or other solutions through to flush and clean tanks or equipment.
    • Flush or clean equipment, using steam hoses or mechanical reamers.
    • Open valves or start pumps, agitators, reactors, blowers, or automatic feed of materials.
  • Ability to fill packages (drums, pails, totes, bags, etc.) to accurate weights
  • Ability to de-drum packages into vessels
  • Ability to hook up hoses to pumps, tanks, lances, manifolds, etc.
  • Conduct regular checks and inspections of equipment and work areas to ensure they are running efficiently and within specified parameters.
  • Record and log data related to production activities, such as batch numbers, chemical quantities, temperatures, and pressure levels.
  • Handle and store chemicals in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and company guidelines.
  • Participate in safety audits, drills, and training sessions as required.
  • Perform in-process quality checks to ensure that products meet specified standards and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of production activities, including batch logs, maintenance records, and safety reports.
    o Record operational data, such as temperatures, pressures, ingredients used, processing times, or test results.
    o Measure, weigh, and mix chemical ingredients, according to specifications.
  • Work closely with the quality control team to ensure product samples are delivered and tested for specific chemical characteristics; pH levels, concentrations, viscosities, etc. and address any defects or inconsistencies in the production process.
  • Prepare and submit shift notes to supervisors detailing production outcomes, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss production goals, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Other activities as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma, accreditation from a technical school or applicable skilled trades program strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a chemical manufacturing facility, batch manufacturing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts (algebra, statistics, geometry) as it applies to practical situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Proficient computer and MRP skills required. MS Dynamics strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Shift work is required.
  • Located in a chemical plant. Must wear designated safety gear and PPE when appropriate.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, up to 55 pounds at a time; squatting and kneeling.
  • Must wear safety gear, such as goggles and gloves, when handling box cutters or similar tools.
  • Walking between departments, using stairs and climbing ladders.
  • Bending, crouching, kneeling and the ability to lift 50 lbs. manually and unassisted.
  • As part of the manufacturing process, you will be inside a controlled room at a constant of 100F.

As a chemical production operator, you will ensure all aspects of manufacturing operations for the plant are in order and produce cost-effective, timely and high-quality products in a safe, secure and sanitary working environment. You will be responsible for your work area to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the area. You will set up and monitor the production of product in your area and participate in the continuous improvement process at the site to address safety, production, and quality improvements.
This role will report directly to the Shift Supervisor, Lead, Production Manager, or those of similar status.
