We are looking for a Senior Mainframe Developer who will play a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and modernizing critical enterprise applications built on COBOL, JCL, and Copybook‑based architectures. This role combines deep mainframe expertise with strong analytical skills to evaluate existing systems, improve operational performance, and implement new business rules and features. The position also offers opportunities to contribute to modernization initiatives, including event‑driven architectures, microservices, and cloud‑native patterns.
The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in software development role, designing enterprise-grade, fault-tolerant solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, analyze, build and deploy complex systems, providing technical direction and expertise to ensure the delivery of robust, efficient, and scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing mainframe applications to assess performance, stability, and scalability, and recommend improvements.
- Design, develop, and enhance COBOL programs, JCL scripts, and Copybook structures to support new business requirements.
- Collaborate with business users, product managers, architects, and software engineers to plan, design, develop, test, and implement impactful software solutions.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement long‑term fixes.
- Optimize batch processes, data flows, and system interactions to improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure code quality through peer reviews, testing, and adherence to development standards.
- Participate in modernization initiatives, including API enablement, event‑driven workflows, and microservices integration.
- Document system changes, technical designs, and operational procedures.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to best‑practice development processes.
- Oversee all aspects of mainframe application design, development, testing, and deployment using technologies like COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and performance enhancements to ensure high team efficiency and system reliability.
- Balance assigning user stories through prioritization, working within a team to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate coding priorities in an Agile environment.
- Experience working with high-volume, sensitive data while adhering to security, compliance, and privacy guidelines.
- Provide technical leadership across all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from initial design through production deployment.
- Strong SQL skills, including query optimization, performance tuning, and working with both relational and non-relational stores.
Required Skills:
- 10 years of hands-on experience on Mainframe Programming and Development using COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS etc.
- Strong understanding of batch processing, job scheduling, and mainframe debugging tools.
- Experience analyzing legacy systems and identifying opportunities for optimization or redesign.
- Ability to interpret complex business rules and implement them in existing modules.
- Solid understanding of SDLC processes, version control, and change management.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Web Services and API Development experience to support Modernization of Legacy Applications including DB2 Database.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to modernization frameworks such as event‑driven architecture, microservices, or API‑based integration.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or containerization concepts.
