Here is What Your day May Consist of:
πΎ Patient Care & Nursing
- Monitor, restrain, and comfort animals before, during, and after exams or procedures
- Obtain and record vital signs (TPR) accurately
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed
- Perform venipuncture, place IV catheters, and administer fluids
- Assist with anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Provide postoperative and intensive care nursing for hospitalized patients
- Collect and process blood, urine, fecal, and other diagnostic samples
- Perform in-house lab testing and prepare samples for outside labs
- Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (hematology, chemistry analyzers, digital radiology)
- Take, position, and process digital radiographs following safety guidelines
- Prepare patients, instruments, and surgical suites for procedures
- Assist the veterinarian during surgery while maintaining sterility
- Monitor anesthesia depth, vitals, and patient responses
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain all surgical equipment and instruments
- Perform dental cleanings and dental charting under veterinary supervision
- Educate clients on at-home dental care and preventive maintenance
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding care, medications, and follow-up instructions
- Provide education on preventive care (vaccinations, nutrition, parasite prevention, dental hygiene)
- Review discharge instructions and ensure client understanding
- Maintain accurate, detailed medical records in practice software
- Document all treatments, diagnostics, and medications correctly
- Assist with inventory management and stocking of medical supplies
- Follow OSHA and hospital safety protocols, including proper PPE use
- Handle controlled substances and biohazard materials appropriately
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment
- Active North Carolina RVT license (or eligibility to obtain)
