Experienced Veterinary Professionals Wanted — Emergency Medicine FocusEmergency Veterinary Clinic of Niceville (EVC Niceville) is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team.
This position is not entry level. Successful candidates will have a strong clinical foundation and prior hands-on experience in emergency, critical care, surgery, anesthesia, or high-volume general practice. As the only 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital serving Niceville and the Emerald Coast, EVC provides urgent, life-saving care after hours, on weekends, and during holidays. Our team is known for its professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to exceptional patient care.
As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant or Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting veterinarians and credentialed technicians during emergency and critical care cases. This role requires technical competence, strong situational awareness, and the ability to make sound decisions in high-acuity situations.
You will work closely with the medical team to deliver efficient, compassionate care during some of the most stressful moments for pets and their families.Key Highlights:

What You’ll Do:
You’ll play a key role in supporting our emergency and critical care teams—helping deliver high-quality care when pets (and their people) need it most.
- Assist with emergency triage, urgent examinations, and treatments
- Obtain patient histories, vitals, and presenting complaints
- Provide safe, skilled restraint for critically ill, injured, or fractious patients
- Perform and support diagnostics, including:
- Venipuncture and blood sample preparation
- In-house laboratory testing (IDEXX/Heska preferred)
- Radiographs
- Urinalysis, fecals, and basic cytology
- Place and maintain IV catheters; assist with fluid therapy
- Administer medications via PO, SQ, IM, and IV routes
- Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Support surgical and emergency procedures as directed
- Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients; accurately chart vitals and observations
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and patient care areas
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, including discharge education
- Collaborate with teammates to ensure smooth shift transitions and continuity of care
- This is not an entry-level position
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on veterinary clinical experience required
- Prior experience in emergency, critical care, specialty, or high-volume general practice strongly preferred
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred, but highly skilled Veterinary Assistants with advanced technical abilities will be considered
- Demonstrated proficiency in:
- Patient restraint and handling in high-stress situations
- IV catheter placement and venipuncture
- Anesthetic monitoring and post-operative recovery
- Emergency protocols and multitasking under pressure
- Experience with veterinary PIMS and electronic medical records
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional during trauma cases and overnight surges
- Flexible availability for nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis

Eligible Certified, Registered, and Licensed Veterinary Technicians who:
- Graduated from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program
- Successfully passed the VTNE
- Obtained credentialing within the past three years
