Mechanical Designer

Position Summary
The Mechanical Designer will play a key role in bringing our water treatment concepts from initial P&ID and layout stages through to full 3D modeling, detail fabrication drafting, and production support. Working closely on-site with engineering, automation controls, and fabrication teams, the Mechanical Designer will design structural frames, piping systems, equipment layouts, and integrated equipment packages

Salary Range: $27.50 - $31.50 per hour
Job Responsibilities
3D Modeling & Machine Design
- Design skid-mounted MBR systems, structural frames, membrane module supports, and equipment layouts using SolidWorks.
- Develop detailed 3D assemblies, weldments, sheet metal components, and sub-assemblies following internal design standards and industry best practices.
- Perform basic mechanical design calculations (e.g., structural sizing, component selection, fits and tolerances).
- Coordinate with engineering team to select and integrate mechanical components including pumps, blowers, control valves, instrumentation, and piping manifolds.
2D Drafting & Documentation
- Create detailed fabrication drawings, shop drawings, assembly layouts, and BOMs (Bills of Materials) for manufacturing and procurement.
- Prepare and maintain 2D process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), general arrangement (GA) drawings, and site layout plans using AutoCAD or DraftSight.
- Generate clear assembly and isometric drawings for shop fabrication, field installation, and operation manuals.
Design Control & Engineering Support
- Maintain engineering change notices (ECNs / ECOs) and maintain design revision control.
- Collaborate with shop teams, external fabricators, and equipment vendors to resolve design issues, ensure manufacturability, and clarify technical specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Skills:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, large assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, and technical drawing creation).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or DraftSight (or similar) for P&IDs, GA layouts, and line diagrams.
- Solid foundation in mechanical machine design, structural framing, manufacturing processes (welding, machining, sheet metal forming), and mechanical fasteners.
- Familiarity with industrial piping materials (stainless steel, PVC/CPVC, HDPE), valves, fittings, and fluid handling components.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in drawing standards, dimensions, and bill of materials.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering, fabrication, and project management teams.
- Self-starter; Self-motivated problem solver capable of managing multiple drawing packages under project deadlines.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Technical Certification in Mechanical Drafting/Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET).
- 3–5 years of professional experience in mechanical design and drafting for industrial equipment, custom machinery, or process skids.
- Must be US citizen or permanent resident.
