Overview
We are seeking compassionate, dedicated, and reliable Residential Counselors to join our team. The Residential Counselor will work directly with residents with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in our group homes, providing support with daily living activities, helping individuals set and achieve personal goals, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and supervision to residents in a group home or residential setting.
- Assist with daily living activities such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, medication management, and housekeeping.
- Implement individualized care plans based on the needs of each resident.
- Support residents in achieving personal goals, improving life skills, and increasing independence.
- Maintain accurate records of residents' progress, behavior, and any incidents or changes in health status.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents at all times.
- Provide emotional support and crisis intervention as needed.
- Collaborate with team members, families, and other professionals to coordinate care and services.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field (preferred).
- Previous experience working in a residential care, group home, or similar environment is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental attitude.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and respect.
- Flexible and willing to work weekends, evenings, or overnight shifts as required.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or the ability to obtain it).
- DDA Core Training (or the ability to obtain it).
- Active CMT (Certified Medication Technician) or LPN (licensed practical nurse) with the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) (or the ability to obtain it).
