Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting the day-to-day operations of the HR department and ensuring smooth execution of HR programs and policies for all of our staff in our many locations including but not limited to, NJ, Michigan, and Puerto Rico. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding and experience in HR functions and a passion for fostering a positive workplace culture. This position is a full-time in-office position reporting to the Basking Ridge location.
Key Responsibilities
HR Administration
- Maintain employee records including files, processing all forms of HR paperwork, system additions/adjustments/removal, and documentation
- Generate internal HR documents (offer letters, contracts, etc.)
- Administer compensation and benefits programs including 401k and organize/execute open enrollments for all locations.
- Assist and monitor employee attendance.
- Process all employee leaves and FMLA paperwork
- Point person for all workman’s comp claims and assist in yearly audit
- Handle employee onboarding, transitions/promotions and termination conversations and administrative process (involving payroll and other HR systems/document sites)
- Assist in budget preparation for school contracts under the direction of CFO
- Identify operational challenges- report to management with feedback and suggestions for innovative solutions that improve efficiency and process.
Employee Relations
- Address employee queries and grievances
- Promote a conflict-free and inclusive workplace
- Support disciplinary actions and policy enforcement
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assist in talent acquisition process and candidate screening
- Coordinate interviews and manage onboarding processes
- Develop and implement onboarding plans
Training & Development
- Partner with leadership to organize training sessions and development initiatives
- Partner with leadership to create/implement and support performance management and appraisal processes
Compliance & Reporting
- Partner with leadership to draft policies or adjust existing policies
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies
- Analyze HR metrics (e.g., turnover rates, time-to-hire)
- EEO, Affirmative action, and OSHA reporting, audits, and policy updates
- Partnering with Accounting/CFO on meeting quarterly compliance needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 3–4 years of HR experience preferred
- Must be able to handle confidential information and situations with the highest HR degree of professionalism
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Able to work independently and efficiently.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Proficiency in HRIS
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Office full suite specifically Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams
- Ability to confidently learn and navigate through existing platforms and quickly adapt to new processes or IT related updates as they apply to HR and the company.
- Working/Administrative knowledge of payroll systems (ADP and/or Paychex) preferred
- Experience in the Education and/or Public Sector field is preferred
Required Certifications
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification
