The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting payroll and accounting operations in compliance with school policies and governmental finance regulations. This role provides timely financial information to support decision-making and contributes to the overall efficiency and integrity of the school’s financial management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business management, finance, accounting, or a closely related field.
At least three (3) years of experience in governmental finance, financial management, accounting, or nonprofit financial operations; or
An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable submissions for the accounting team.
- Ensure proper account classification for all financial submissions in collaboration with the accounting team.
- Review payroll time punches and PTO entries for completeness and policy compliance; notify supervisors of discrepancies.
- Verify GL codes in timecard submissions.
- Review payroll registers to ensure accuracy of pay amounts, benefits, retirement contributions, stipends/supplemental pay, and calculate/verify special payroll adjustments, including prorated or retroactive pay.
- Receive, review, and respond to incoming mail as pertains to financial department.
- Perform weekly bank deposits of checks and cash.
- Manage the distribution, tracking, and reconciliation of PEX cards.
- Pull and distribute internal account reports as needed.
- Attend board and budgetary meetings as required.
- Train staff in procurement policies and accurate recordkeeping of departmental expenses.
- Maintain accurate financial documentation and communicate effectively.
- Provides support and documentation on internal processes as required for audit purposes.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of governmental finance principles, regulations, and reporting requirements relevant to public/charter education or similar organizations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, support staff, and external partners.
- Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Proficient in modern office equipment and software, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
- Skilled in written and oral communication.
- Knowledgeable in report and record maintenance principles and techniques.
Physical Requirements/Activity:
· Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
· The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift (up to 20 pounds), finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing acuity, and visual acuity.
· Indoor and Outdoor: Bookkeeper is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Hours: 7:50am – 3:50pm, Flexible schedule may be required to meet business needs during evenings or weekends
Salary Schedule: Classified Pay Schedule, Starting at $48,000.00/year
