Description
To achieve the mission of Innovation Charter High School, SpEd teachers at Innovation ensure that our student innovators achieve rigorous academic goals. Specifically, these teachers co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess students in the mainstream classroom. Under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Special Education Coordinator, our teachers collaborate to develop, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an inclusive learning environment to enable all students to fulfill their academic potential.
Minimum Qualifications:
- New York State Teaching Certification in Earth Science 7-12 is required.
- Three to five years of classroom experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards is preferred.
- Familiarity with New Visions Earth and Space Science curriculum is preferred.
Essential Job Functions:

- Develop relevant and accessible content-based curriculum
- Ensure students progress toward content mastery and pass the course
- Use assessment data to increase student performance on school and State assessments
- Provide out-of-class student support to achieve Innovation’s mission
- Build students’ academic and socio-emotional skills
- Advocate to ensure that students receive appropriate supports
- Support plans for post-high school transition to ensure quality of life after high school
Secondary Job Functions:
- Support with school events, sports, events and emergencies
- Additional responsibilities as needed consistent with the general nature of the position
- Support with testing, proctoring and scoring as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her designee.

Evaluation
Teacher performance is formally appraised during evaluation cycles that occur at least two times during the school year. Appraisals are transparent, collaborative, intended to promote professional growth, and based on the accomplishment of the goals and responsibilities outlined above.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time position. Innovation teachers certified in NYS receive a highly competitive compensation package. Uncertified teachers receive competitive compensation and an increase upon getting certified.
