Controls Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join a leading manufacturing organization with multiple facilities across North America. This role involves specifying, designing, implementing, and upgrading complex control systems and software for high-speed production equipment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and play a key part in improving machine performance, driving engineering excellence, and supporting operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, OEMs, vendors, and contractors in the design, installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and process controls.
- Select and approve electrical and controls components, review electrical designs, and perform software assessments and modifications.
- Specify and/or design DCS, PLC, HMI, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision systems, and data collection solutions based on established standards.
- Evaluate electrical equipment options and recommend optimal solutions.
- Assess, design, and implement complex program modifications in DCS, PLC logic, HMI programs, and servo controller logic to enhance equipment and system performance.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting and lead others in diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and process issues.
- Partner with MES teams to develop and maintain machine data collection systems.
- Lead small capital projects and drive improvements from concept to completion.
- Stay current with emerging controls technologies, industry trends, and safety standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve production operations and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical training and coaching to Controls team members, Production, Warehouse, and other personnel.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and maintain a zero-loss time, safety-driven mindset.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, or related fields.
- Proficiency in creating and modifying schematic drawings (AutoCAD).
- Minimum 3 years of experience with industrial control systems.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, PLC hardware and software (Rockwell and Siemens), servo control, and HMI.
- Understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Training in Functional Machine Safety and safe machine design through risk assessment.
- Knowledge or training in Automation Security (ISO 62443).
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.
- Experience with root cause analysis preferred.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams and support project execution.

Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
