JOB TITLE - Underwriter – Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) Financing
NOTE: This position is NOT remote and will be required to be onsite full-time.
Position Summary
The Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and approving customer credit applications within the Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) financing program. This role requires thorough risk assessment, verification of applicant information, and sound underwriting judgment to ensure portfolio quality while supporting dealership sales objectives. The Underwriter must consistently apply company policy, regulatory requirements, and established risk tolerance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and render decisions on customer credit applications for BHPH financing.
- Verify applicant income, employment, residency, and all required supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate credit bureau reports, payment histories, debt obligations, and stability indicators to determine creditworthiness.
- Apply established underwriting guidelines and risk criteria to approve, structure, or decline financing requests.
- Clearly communicate underwriting decisions, stipulations, and conditions to the sales department in a timely manner.
- Identify and monitor risk trends, fraud indicators, and portfolio performance patterns.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with internal policies and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation for all credit files.
Qualifications
- Experience with NEO application processing platform a big plus
- Strong analytical, financial assessment, and risk evaluation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret credit reports and supporting financial documentation.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and dealership management systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
