JOB TITLE: Junior Underwriter
NOTE: This position is NOT remote and will be required to be onsite full-time.
Position Summary
The Junior Underwriter is responsible for supporting the underwriting process by reviewing, verifying, and validating customer information and documentation for credit applications. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of loan files prior to final underwriting review and decision-making. The Junior Underwriter works closely with applicants, sales staff, and senior underwriting personnel to gather required documentation, identify discrepancies, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review incoming credit applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Verify applicant income, employment, residency, insurance, references, and other required supporting documentation.
- Contact employers, applicants, references, and third parties as needed to validate information provided on credit applications.
- Review pay stubs, bank statements, tax returns, and other financial documentation to confirm income and repayment ability.
- Obtain and review credit bureau reports and other supporting reports.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, or potential fraud indicators and escalate concerns to senior underwriting staff.
- Ensure all loan files meet company documentation standards prior to underwriting review and funding.
- Assist senior underwriters in evaluating creditworthiness and loan structure recommendations.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical loan files.
- Enter, update, and maintain customer and loan information within company systems.
- Communicate documentation requirements, stipulations, and application status updates to sales staff in a timely manner.
- Monitor application pipelines to ensure timely processing and follow-up.
- Ensure all activities comply with company policies, underwriting guidelines, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Assist with post-approval reviews, funding conditions, and quality control audits as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in loan processing, underwriting support, finance, banking, collections, customer service, or automotive finance preferred.
- Experience with NEO application processing platform is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to review and verify financial and personal documentation accurately.
- Basic understanding of credit reports and lending principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and dealership management systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
