Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Structured Cabling/Low Technician in the Kansas City region to perform cabling and fiber installations in large scale mission critical environments. This role focuses on hands-on installation, testing, and documentation of structured cabling systems within data centers, ensuring reliable network infrastructure for enterprise operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test CAT5, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling in data center environments.
- Perform cable pulls, routing, dressing, labeling, and documentation.
- Work with patch panels, racks, and network equipment to ensure clean and organized installations.
- Conduct site assessments and pre-installation planning for efficiency and proper cable management.
- Troubleshoot cabling issues and perform quality assurance to ensure all installations meet technical standards.
- Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Collaborate with other technicians and infrastructure teams on deployment projects.
- 3 years of structured cabling experience in data centers or enterprise environments
- Demonstrated proficiency in fiber optic cabling, including installation, termination, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and the use of fiber-specific test equipment such as OTDRs and power meters.
- Experience with CAT5/CAT6 and fiber optic cabling installation and termination
- Knowledge of patch panels, racks, and cable management best practices
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
- Proficiency with cable testing tools (e.g., Fluke or similar)
- Physically capable: lift 50 lbs, work at heights, and in confined spaces
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail
- BICSI Installer or Technician certification
- Fiber optic installation and testing experience
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Experience in enterprise or data center deployments
- Work on enterprise-level data center projects
