: Under the direction of the ILCS administration, maintains a safe and sanitary environment, provides adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; minimizes property damage, loss and liability exposure; maintains attractive grounds areas; operates required equipment; protects against erosion; maintains grounds for site appearance and recreational activities; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Cleans facilities, grounds, and classrooms for the purpose of maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events.
- Secures facilities for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.
- Informs pupils, staff, and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, requested information, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
- Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining an inventory and completing jobs efficiently within budget guidelines.
- Assists in general school operations by receiving and distributing supplies; assists in moving heavy objects.
- Maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with teachers, staff, and students.
- Performs heavy cleaning work during summer or recess periods.
- Maintains landscaping including lawns, trees, shrubs, sprinkler systems, driveways, parking lots, and related areas for the purpose of keeping areas attractive and safe.
- Performs routine maintenance on grounds equipment to ensure proper and safe equipment operation.
- Plants landscape materials such as lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, and other related materials for the purpose of keeping the areas attractive and protecting against erosion.
- Prepares grounds such as ball fields, courtyards, and flowerbeds for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for recreational activity.
- Inspects landscaped areas and grounds such as fields, parkways and other related areas.
- Cleans storm drains and rain gutters for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards.
- Prepares reports such as work orders, forms (including chemical/pesticide use), purchase orders, etc., for the purpose of documenting the completion of tasks and maintains records of work.
- Applies chemicals and fertilizers to plant materials for the purpose of promoting and regulating growth.
- Mows lawns and trims vegetation on a regular basis.
- Operates manual and automatic sprinkler systems in order to water lawns, planters, and other surfaces.
- Raises and lowers flags.
- Turns on heating and air conditioning equipment and adjusts for temperature changes, if applicable.
- Assembles and does light repairs of furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring usability of items.
- Requests materials, supplies and equipment to ensure adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Transports equipment and supplies to designated job sites.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of meeting demands, and completing work orders or safety issues in a timely manner.
Experience Required: Prior job related experience of four years with increasing levels of responsibility, preferably in school and/or institutional setting with a good work history which demonstrates reliability and responsibility.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill in maintaining safe work practices; use of cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; calculating accurate dilution of cleaning agents; reading and interpreting plans; safe operation of equipment; and calculation and proper application of fertilizers and chemicals. Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment and supplies; and in basic methods, tools, and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance and standards for safe use of fertilizers and chemicals. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; work independently with minimal supervision; perform a variety of related tasks; adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice; communicate with students, staff and the public, and to walk for extended periods. Significant physical abilities include standing for extended periods, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, and near and far visual acuity/depth perception.
Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability, TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.

Pay: $17.61 - $20.21 per hour
