Location: Spokane, Eastern Washington / Northern Idaho Territory

Job Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $22.00 - $34.80 Hourly

Job Summary

Inland Cellular is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Field Network Technician to join our Operations team. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and reliable operation of our cellular network infrastructure across our expansive service territory in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. This role requires extensive travel throughout the territory (often home each night) and participation in a scheduled on-call rotation to provide 24/7 network support.

The ideal candidate must live within the defined service territory (Spokane, Eastern WA, or Northern ID area) to ensure rapid response times for critical network outages.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Maintenance

  • Cell Site Management: Take primary responsibility for a designated selection of cellular sites, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with all safety and operational standards.
  • Preventative and Corrective Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs on all cell site equipment, including antennas, radios, transmission systems, battery backups, and HVAC.
  • Emergency Response: Serve as a primary responder during the on-call rotation to diagnose and troubleshoot network outages, system failures, and degraded performance with minimal supervision.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed records of all work performed, including installations, upgrades, maintenance logs, and trouble tickets, using internal systems.

Installation and Upgrades

  • New Site Builds: Assist with or lead the construction and activation of new cell sites, which include equipment rigging, assembly, and integration.
  • Equipment Installation: Install and configure a variety of network hardware, including:
  • Servers and Networking Gear: Rack-mounting, cable management, and initial setup of core and edge networking devices.
  • Radio/Antenna Systems: Installation, alignment, and testing of RF transmission lines, antennas, and microwave backhaul equipment.
  • Power Systems: Installation of DC power plants, batteries, and grounding systems.
  • Wiring and Cabling: Execute expert installation, termination, testing, and labeling of various cable types, including CAT5/6, coaxial cable, and fiber optic cable (including splicing and testing).

Technical Expertise

  • Configuration: Apply command-line knowledge to perform initial and ongoing configuration of cellular and network equipment based on engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshooting: Use test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, cable testers, optical power meters) to locate, diagnose, and resolve complex issues related to RF, transport, and DC power systems.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all OSHA, FCC, and company safety protocols, especially when working at heights, with high-voltage DC power, and on live equipment.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2 years of experience as a Field Technician, Telecommunications Technician, or similar role, preferably in a wireless/cellular environment.
  • Proven expertise in server racking, hardware installation, and data center best practices.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of TCP/IP networking and experience configuring basic network parameters (IP addressing, VLANs, routing).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality low-voltage wiring and cable termination (copper and fiber).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform manual labor as required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and an excellent driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or Technical Certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or Networking (e.g., CompTIA Network , CCNA, ETA Fiber Optic Technician).
  • Experience with microwave radio equipment installation and path alignment.
  • Experience with specific cellular vendor equipment (e.g., Nokia, Parallel, Samsung) is a plus.

Other Requirements

  • Residency Requirement: Must reside within the Inland Cellular service territory (Spokane, Eastern Washington, or Northern Idaho) to facilitate efficient dispatch.
  • Travel: Daily travel throughout the territory is required. Company vehicle provided.
  • On-Call: Mandatory participation in a rotating on-call schedule for network emergencies, which may require evening, weekend, or holiday response.
