What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Architect / Manager position at Ink Built?
Ink Built Architecture is a women-owned firm in Portland doing affordable housing, shelter, and community-centered design across the region. We talk (a lot) about equity, affordability, racial justice, sustainability, and climate — because none of it means anything if the benefits aren't shared by everyone.
We're a small firm, which means everyone wears ALL the hats. We're looking for someone ready to run their own project(s) start to finish — client, GC, consultants, internal team — with independent drive and a collaborative spirit. Someone who loves empowering others, is here because the mission matters, and knows that means jumping into Revit as readily as leading a design review.
Role Description This is a senior-level role: we need 8 years of experience with proven ownership of projects and team leadership from early design through construction. Multi-family and affordable housing experience is strongly preferred. The Project Architect / Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Portland, OR.
This role requires in-office work at least 50% of the time — we Sketch together on Mondays, and being present with the team matters to how we work. The rest of the week flexes between office and remote. We think a GIF is worth a thousand words. And we really, really love what we do.
In order to apply to this role send your resume and work samples to work@inkbuilt.com. Applications missing this step will not be reviewed.
What you'll own:
- One or more 30-100 unit (or equivalent) projects, early design through construction admin
- Client relationships — budget, schedule, and quality, clearly communicated
- Consultant coordination across structural, MEP, civil, and specialty disciplines
- Schedules, budgets, and risk flags, tracked and managed
- Mentorship for job captains and design staff on your team
- Scope and fee conversations, in partnership with our Principals
- Permitting, code compliance, and jurisdictional relationships
- Ink Built's presence in client meetings, public hearings, and design review
What you bring:
- 8 years leading projects from early design through construction — required
- Multi-family and affordable housing experience — strongly preferred
- Fully proficient in Revit — and the judgment to know when to delegate it
- A track record of managing consultants, budgets, and schedules independently
- Communication skills that turn friction into forward motion
- A collaborative mindset — no territory-guarding here
- Solid command of building and zoning code
- Genuine alignment with housing justice, equity, and sustainability
