This position plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure achievement and performance for every child.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Virtual Duties and Responsibilities

• Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Platform in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills

• Uses a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks

• Participate in professional learning to enhance ability to provide engaging online instruction

• Clearly articulates deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that students complete coursework in a timely manner

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Teacher Duties and Responsibilities

a. Follows professional practices consistent with school and district policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues

• Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents • Is available to students and parents for conferences according to district policies

• Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications

• Maintains confidentiality of students and students’ records

• Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents

b. Complies with school, district, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies

• Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled

• Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline

• Is punctual

• Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher

• Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly

• Attends and participates in faculty meeting and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy

• Complies with conditions as stated in the Contract of Employment

c. Demonstrates professional practices in teaching

• Models correct use of language, oral and written

• Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content

• Implements designated curriculum

• Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy

• Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students

d. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order

• Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities

• Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings

Other Duties

a. Performs other duties as required based on the specific content area taught (such as content-area competitions, after-hours activities, and so on).

b. Plans and coordinates purposeful assignments for paraprofessional(s), other supporting staff, and volunteer(s), and provides input to the administrative staff on the performance of these individuals.

c. Performs other duties as required by the District, the school, or student need.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Advanced knowledge of adolescent growth and development.

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting documents related to safety, technology, and educational procedures.

• Ability to prepare and communicate effectively through written reports, lesson plans, and correspondence.

• Skill in computing and interpreting data, including rate, ratio, and percent calculations.

• Proficiency in PC operations and software applications, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.

• Capability to serve as a liaison with various professionals and effectively collaborate with parents and guardians.

• Capacity to adapt instructional strategies and provide accommodations to meet individual student needs.

• Strong physical capability to manage classroom and student needs, including potential crisis intervention situations.

 

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to obtain clearance certificate from GaPSC.

• Meets Georgia state certification requirements in Special Education.

 

Candidates must be certified in, or eligible for certification in SP ED General Curriculum (P-12) Consultative.  It is also preferred candidates have SP ED Academic Content certification. 
 

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1.  190 day work year.
2.  Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
3.  Excellent benefits package (including health insurance; dental and life insurance; employee assistance program); personal and sick leave; membership in Teachers' Retirement System.
