Role Description The Part Time Activity Assistant supports residents by organizing and facilitating daily recreational and social activities that promote engagement and well-being. This on-site role, based in Livingston, NJ, includes assisting with individual and group programs such as games, crafts, music, exercise, and special events. Responsibilities include helping residents participate safely, encouraging social interaction, documenting attendance and participation, and collaborating with nursing and care staff to adapt activities to residents’ abilities and preferences. The Activity Assistant also helps set up and clean activity spaces, communicates schedules and updates to residents and families, and contributes to a positive, respectful environment.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication skills, including clear verbal communication and active listening with residents, families, and team members.
- Customer Service skills focused on empathy, patience, and professionalism when supporting residents and responding to needs or concerns.
- Recreation skills to assist in planning, leading, and adapting group and individual activities that are engaging and safe.
- Elder Care experience or knowledge, with an understanding of the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of older adults.
- Training skills to help orient residents to activities and support new team members or volunteers in activity procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team and to follow care plans and safety guidelines.
- Reliability and flexibility to work part time, including possible evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in long-term care, recreation, or a similar setting is preferred.
