As an Ingalls Shipfitter, you are part of a team that fabricates, assembles, and installs the metal structures that form the backbone of America’s ships. From cutting and shaping steel to building major structural components, Shipfitters turn raw material into mission‑ready vessels — craftsmanship that lasts for generations.

If you’re ready to start a hands‑on career in a world‑class trade, a future at Ingalls Shipbuilding — “America’s Shipyard” and Mississippi’s largest private employer — is waiting.

What You Can Earn

  • Guaranteed pay increases every six months as you progress through the Shipfitter training program.
  • Additional opportunities for overtime, skills training, and long‑term career advancement.

What You’ll Do

  • Learn to fabricate, assemble, and install metal parts and structures used in ship construction.
  • Use tools such as torches, tape measures, hammers, levels, and welding equipment.
  • Apply basic math, measurement, and blueprint reading skills.
  • Work in shipboard environments including heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
  • Support production needs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment and be available for any shift.

Why This Work Matters

Shipfitters build the foundation of the fleet. Your craftsmanship directly affects the strength, safety, and lifespan of the vessels that protect our nation and operate around the world. Every cut, weld, and measurement contributes to something bigger — ships with a mission.

  • Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork
  • Willingness to work in active shipyard environments and learn through hands-on training
