Job Title: Shop Hand – Heavy Duty Truck & Equipment
Department: Maintenance / Service
Reports To: Service Manager
Job Summary:
The Shop Hand supports the daily operations of the heavy-duty truck and equipment shop by assisting mechanics and technicians, performing cleaning and maintenance duties, and helping keep the shop organized and efficient. This position plays a key role in ensuring all trucks and equipment are properly maintained, cleaned, and ready for service. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and eager to learn about heavy-duty truck maintenance and repair operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist technicians and mechanics with repairs, maintenance, and general shop tasks.
- Wash and detail heavy-duty trucks and equipment inside and out using pressure washers and cleaning tools.
- Clean, organize, and maintain shop work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Perform basic maintenance duties such as oil clean-up, floor sweeping, and waste disposal.
- Load, unload, and move parts, tools, and heavy components safely using forklifts or shop equipment (if certified).
- Deliver parts or assist with parts pickup when needed.
- Maintain fluid levels, restock supplies, and assist in keeping inventory organized.
- Conduct safety checks and report any issues or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Follow all company policies and safety procedures, including use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Previous experience in a truck or equipment shop environment is an asset.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Basic understanding of mechanical tools and shop equipment.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Work performed primarily in a heavy-duty truck and equipment repair shop.
- Exposure to noise, grease, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor elements.
- May require overtime on workload and seasonal demand.
Compensation:
- Pay Range: $18 - $22 an hour based on experience
- Retirement Program eligibility on 1 year anniversary. Company matches 3%.
- Health Insurance through United Healthcare. Eligible 60 days after hire date.
- Dental Insurance is available but paid 100% by the employee. Eligible 60 days after hire date.
- Disability Insurance – Short Term and Long Term paid for 100% by Company. Eligible 60 days after hire date.
- Vacation – 10 days paid per year. Time prorated in year one dependent on hire date.
