What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Utility Locator position at InfraMap Corp?
After initial training is completed, the utility locator works independently but under the direction of their supervisor. Utility locators are responsible for the correct, safe, and efficient locating of underground utilities including telecommunications, electric, power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems. This includes taking time to thoroughly search for underground utilities in an area, properly marking the location, and completing the necessary paperwork in accordance with company guidelines.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follow the standard operating procedures for utility locating and documentation.
- Properly target & locate utilities, above and below ground, without error.
- Correct use, technique, and maintenance of the locating equipment.
- Follow proper administrative procedures
Skills & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED required.
- At least TWO years utility locating experience
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field
- HAZWOPER40 certification
- OSHA10 or OSHA30
- Existing First-Aid/CPR certification
General
- Experience in learn technical utility locating.
- Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
- Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
- Ability to work with a variety of personalities.
- Proficiency in reading maps, records, and plan sets
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PDF editor
- Must have good communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail
Physical
- Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 35 pounds.
- Must have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain, within urban environment.
- Must have the ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours a day
- Must have the ability to see and respond to external influences, including hazardous environments.
- Must have the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Must be available to work overtime and some weekends.
