Optical Systems / Sensor Test Engineer (R&D)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Optical Systems / Sensor Test Engineer to join our R&D team. This role is responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex hardware and software issues, characterizing imaging sensors, and developing innovative test solutions. The ideal candidate will play a key role in evaluating camera and sensor system performance, identifying trends, and optimizing optical output through data-driven analysis and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues based on field reports and lab findings
- Characterize and evaluate imaging sensors to ensure performance meets design specifications
- Design, develop, and validate lab fixtures and test setups for optical and sensor systems
- Conduct testing on camera and sensor platforms to identify trends and drive performance improvements
- Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies to support future product development
- Develop and automate test plans to improve efficiency, repeatability, and scalability
- Validate software features related to imaging and sensor performance
- Create Python-based tools, scripts, and GUIs to streamline testing workflows and data analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and product engineering
- Support cost reduction initiatives through process improvements and design optimization
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Robotics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Experience working with camera systems, imaging sensors, or optical test environments
- Strong understanding of hardware/software integration and system-level debugging
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and tool development (GUI experience preferred)
- Experience designing lab fixtures and test equipment
- Familiarity with data analysis, trend identification, and performance optimization
- Knowledge of image quality metrics, sensor characterization, or optical systems is a plus
Preferred Skills
- Experience with machine vision systems or camera calibration
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, light sources, optical benches, etc.)
- Knowledge of automation frameworks and test infrastructure
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment with evolving priorities
