Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join the Emergency Room (ER) team at Rochester Regional Health System. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing accurate and timely specimen collection for patients across all age groups, including infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture, capillary, and special collection procedures, including pediatric and geriatric draws.
- Collect, label, and process blood specimens following proper identification and aseptic techniques.
- Handle various specimen types, including Gray, Green, Blue, Purple, and Red top tubes.
- Conduct point-of-care testing and ensure accurate documentation in the charting system.
- Prioritize and complete collections based on urgency (STAT, timed, and routine orders).
- Maintain proper patient positioning, comfort, and safety during all procedures.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital or emergency setting.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred.
- Certifications: National phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) preferred; BLS certification a plus.
