Responsibilities
- Assess maternal and fetal health through comprehensive physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and physiological assessments.
- Administer medications and interventions such as IV infusions, pain management techniques, and medications for labor progression.
- Support laboring women using aseptic techniques, assist with procedures including suturing, catheterization, and oxygen therapy as needed.
- Monitor fetal heart rates via electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) systems and interpret data to identify any signs of distress.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care plans.
- Educate patients on childbirth processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care practices.
- Document all patient interactions accurately in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Skills
- Extensive experience with labor and delivery nursing in high-acuity environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers or teaching hospitals.
- Proficiency in medical documentation using EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Skilled in performing invasive procedures including suturing, IV insertions, catheterizations, and sterile dressing changes.
- Knowledge of obstetric emergencies including postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia management, and neonatal resuscitation.
- Familiarity with fetal monitoring technology and interpreting cardiotocography (CT) data.
- Ability to handle complex cases involving high-risk pregnancies with critical care experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to obstetrics, neonatology, anesthesia, and trauma medicine.
