This position is 8 hours a day / 260 days a year. 

 

This role will be office based and focus more on network systems and security.  

 

Purpose Statement

The job of IT Network Technician (JC592) is done for the purpose/s of supporting network systems and sub-systems including servers; installing low-voltage wiring; resolving network operational issues; maintaining computer and network hardware, software, and the network; and providing end-user support.

 

This job reports to the Director - Information Technology

 

Essential Functions

  • Assesses malfunctions of network hardware and software for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations.
  • Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders as needed (e.g. system upgrades, training, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the smooth operation of the department with other departments in the District.
  • Escalates network-related problems and issues to the appropriate levels of expertise for the purpose of ensuring technical appropriate support is received while implementing the policies and procedures.
  • Installs a variety of hardware and software (e.g. service packs, application software, VOIP and analog phones, hardware upgrades, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the IT systems will meet the technology needs of the District.
  • Maintains strict (or complete) confidentiality on personnel and student issues (e.g. personnel records, medical records, surveillance videos and images, student data, confidential communication, etc.) for the purpose of protecting personal information for staff and students.
  • Monitors a variety of systems (e.g. District servers, website, related hardware and supporting software, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that resources and technology are available and utilized effectively.
  • Prepares information (e.g. procedures, drawings, reports, work orders, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information.
  • Repairs network-related failures (e.g. computers, peripherals, network equipment, configuration files, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional condition.
  • Researches a variety of work-related topics (e.g. software applications, hardware requirements, emerging trends, etc.) for the purpose of previewing products to provide recommendations regarding applications and purchases and ensuring availability of materials.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of stakeholders (e.g. staff, administrators, school site personnel, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical assistance, advice, and support.
  • Supports network operations (e.g. servers, operating systems, applications, hardware, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient operations of network and associated applications and equipment.
  • Trains District personnel on network-related topics (e.g. e-mail, Internet access and resources, multi-platform applications, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the correct usage of District networks and associated applications.
  • Transports a variety of items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site or transporting equipment for repair.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education:  Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job-related area

 

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Evidence of Insurability
  • Microsoft Certification (desired)
