Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines such as CNC lathes and milling machines, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs using CAM programming software, incorporating GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards for precise measurements.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to produce accurate components.
  • Conduct precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions.
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment and troubleshoot issues related to tooling, electrical systems, or mechanical failures.
  • Select appropriate tooling and fixtures for machining processes; adjust machine parameters as needed for optimal results.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other fabrication tools to assist with assembly or finishing tasks when required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area adhering to lean manufacturing principles; follow safety protocols at all times.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on CNC programming improvements or modifications; participate in continuous improvement initiatives like waste reduction or process optimization.
  • Operate forklifts or other material handling equipment safely to manage raw materials or finished products within the facility.
  • Support plastics injection molding processes or other manufacturing operations as needed.

Skills

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as Fanuc or similar controls.
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications accurately.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical principles, tooling selection, and machining techniques for metals or plastics.
  • Proficiency with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like SolidWorks or general CAD tools for design review or modifications.
  • Familiarity with CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) programming software for creating efficient machining paths.
  • Ability to operate precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and dial indicators.
  • Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
  • Basic math skills necessary for calculating dimensions, feeds, speeds, and tolerances accurately.
  • Experience working with CNC mills and lathes controlled by Fanuc or similar systems; ability to troubleshoot electrical or mechanical issues promptly.
  • Mechanical aptitude combined with welding skills for fabrication or repair tasks when necessary.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles aimed at reducing waste and improving efficiency.
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely; valid certification preferred but not mandatory.   • Set up and operate CNC machines to perform specific production steps, including machining precision parts.
  • Review and update SPC (Statistical Process Control) charts to ensure proper frequency of measurements, gauging, and quality checks.
  • Monitor product quality and verify compliance using statistical process charts and established control procedures.
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, specifications, design sketches, reference planes, and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to determine operational, material, and dimensional requirements.
  • Perform highly complex tasks using creative and effective problem-solving approaches.
  • Work independently on a variety of advanced assignments requiring initiative and sound judgment.
  • Recommend improvements to procedures and machining processes.
  • Measure materials and determine the appropriate machines and tools required for production.
  • Conduct inspections on machined parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to all quality and safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
