Postgres Developer

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled PostgreSQL Developer to join our technology team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining PostgreSQL databases that support enterprise applications. The candidate should possess strong SQL and PL/pgSQL programming skills, experience with database performance tuning, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable database solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL database solutions for enterprise applications.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views using PL/pgSQL.
• Design database schemas, tables, indexes, and relationships based on business requirements.
• Perform query optimization and database performance tuning.
• Analyze execution plans and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
• Develop ETL processes and support data migration activities.
• Create database scripts for deployments, upgrades, and maintenance.
• Ensure data integrity, consistency, security, and high availability.
• Monitor database health, storage utilization, and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with application developers, architects, and DBAs during application development and deployment.
• Troubleshoot production database issues and provide timely resolution.
• Implement backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Document database architecture, processes, and technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and follow database development best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in PostgreSQL database development.
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL architecture and administration concepts.
• Advanced SQL and PL/pgSQL programming skills.
• Experience developing:

• Strong understanding of relational database concepts and normalization.
• Experience with query optimization and execution plan analysis.
• Knowledge of database security, user roles, and permissions.
• Experience with backup, recovery, replication, and database maintenance.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience with Git or other version control systems.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PostgreSQL replication (Streaming Replication, Logical Replication).
• Experience with partitioning, indexing strategies, and table optimization.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL extensions such as PostGIS, pg_stat_statements, or TimescaleDB.
• Experience with cloud database services such as Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
• Knowledge of ETL tools and data integration frameworks.
• Experience with Python, Java, or Node.js for database integration.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Financial Services, Healthcare, or Retail domain experience is a plus.
