About This Role
Provide technical support and assist Engineers with structural engineering work. Under the direction of an Engineering or Architectural Consultant, this position will include the documentation of damaged or other existing structures, structural analysis to design repairs for these structures, and reports and drawings to convey the results of these analyses. Assists in the application of scientific principles, engineering methods, and techniques to a variety of projects.
A mandatory research project must be completed by the end of the Internship and is expected to require approximately 40 hours of effort. The research topic shall be mutually agreed upon between the intern and supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
- Site visits to perform inspections of existing structures.
- Dimensional documentation of structures and understanding of existing structural systems.
- Condition assessment or damage documentation of damaged or other existing structures.
- Reviewing literature, drawings, reports, or other documentation related to project work.
- Preparing AutoCAD drawings detailing proposed repairs or retrofits to existing structures.
- Using analysis software such as SAP2000 to perform structural analysis.
- Using programs such as MathCAD or Excel to organize and present calculations and data.
- Preparing technical reports to convey the results of analyses or inspections.
- Internships with ESi are expected to be full-time, 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8 am-5 pm).
- If you are participating in our internship program – we require that you take no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and are able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- AutoCAD
- SAP2000 or other structural analysis program.
- Microsoft Office Suite. In particular: Excel, Word
- Completed 3 years of college in Civil engineering or Physics/Science program
- 3.00 GPA or higher, preferred.
- Any experience performing field investigations, construction, structural inspections, structural analysis, structural design, technical report writing, and preparation is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.
