The Fire Watch is responsible for monitoring work areas where hot work activities are being performed, including welding, cutting, grinding, and other activities that may create sparks, flames, or excessive heat. The Fire Watch’s primary responsibility is to identify and prevent potential fire hazards and maintain a safe work environment throughout the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain continuous fire watch during hot work activities.
- Monitor the work area for sparks, flames, smoke, or other potential fire hazards.
- Identify and remove or protect combustible materials near the work area.
- Ensure fire extinguishers and other required fire protection equipment are readily available and accessible.
- Maintain communication with the workers performing hot work and the site supervisor.
- Immediately report any unsafe condition, fire hazard, smoke, or signs of fire.
- Take appropriate action in the event of a fire or emergency according to site safety procedures.
- Continue monitoring the area for the required period after hot work has been completed.
- Follow all company, project, and site-specific safety rules and procedures.
- Complete required safety inspections, reports, and documentation.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
