What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Maintenance Technician (Plant & Facilities) position at Infinite Resources?
Our client, an international manufacturer, is opening a new plant, and needs its first maintenance hire. At the start you are the whole maintenance department: you keep the building and the production equipment running, and you are the first call when something stops. The equipment is new and includes welding machines, CNC machines, overhead cranes and air tools, so the job relies on solid mechanical and electrical fundamentals more than on any one machine brand. You will also be on site while suppliers install the equipment, so you learn it from the first day. Target start is December 2026.
SCHEDULE
◆ Plant hours run about 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
◆ You start before the rest of the team to power up and check the building and equipment
◆ Overtime and occasional call-outs when equipment goes down, paid on top of regular pay
RESPONSIBILITIES
◆ Open the plant each morning: start the air compressor, lights and utilities and confirm everything is ready before production begins, then shut down at the end of the day
◆ Maintain and troubleshoot plant equipment, including welding machines, CNC machines, overhead cranes and air tools
◆ Look after building systems: compressed air, electrical panels, gas, heating and general utilities
◆ Carry out the preventive maintenance schedule and record all work in the company's maintenance software
◆ Respond to machine alarms and breakdowns and stay with the problem until the equipment is running safely again
◆ Diagnose faults on machines with sensors and PLC controls and explain the problem clearly to the manufacturer's service technicians
◆ Schedule and oversee outside service: equipment suppliers, the forklift maintenance contractor, the utility company and snow removal
◆ Do basic forklift upkeep (battery water, charging, cleaning) and routine hydraulic checks such as oil levels
◆ Do light welding and small electrical repairs
◆ Work alongside equipment suppliers during installation and start-up of the new plant
◆ Follow safe work practices and help with other plant tasks as needed on a small, growing team
REQUIREMENTS
◆ 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial plant (building or retail maintenance alone is not enough)
◆ Strong mechanical skills plus working electrical knowledge, and comfortable around sensors and PLC-controlled machines
◆ Experience with plant utilities such as air compressors, electrical panels, gas and heating systems
◆ Able to weld and do basic electrical work
◆ Experience following a preventive maintenance schedule and logging work on a computer
◆ Able to work alone and judge when a repair is safe to handle and when to call a specialist
◆ Flexible with hours: early starts, overtime and occasional after-hours call-outs
◆ Comfortable with machine programs and manuals in English and with inch measurements
NICE TO HAVE
◆ Technical diploma or certificate in industrial maintenance, mechatronics or electromechanical technology
◆ Welding or electrical certification
◆ Experience with CNC machines or overhead cranes
◆ Experience setting up maintenance at a new plant
