General Job Summary :

Under the general direction of the VP of External Affairs and Education, the Funeral Services and Medical Examiner Liaison develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates donation strategies within the organization’s donor service area to maximize the number of organs and tissues recovered and transplanted. The Liaison develops and cultivates relationships with the Medical Examiner’s Office and Funeral Homes that result in optimal organ, eye, and tissue donation outcomes.

The Liaison provides prompt, effective service to Funeral Home and Medical Examiner partners to enhance professional relationships, provide excellent service delivery, and increase donation awareness through education. The Liaison also works closely with all teams to ensure seamless, comprehensive, and collaborative service delivery. The Liaison also ensures the best possible support to donors and their families throughout the donation process.

Position may require travel to Infinite Legacy regional offices.

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, business or related field from an accredited college or university; or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Funeral Home or Medical Examiner’s officer preferred.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized strategic plans for assigned accounts in accordance with organizational goals to ensure consistent approach. Assigned accounts will focus on the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), Funeral Directors, and other professionals with whom the organization interacts throughput the donation process.
  • Establishes and maintains effective customer relationships by providing a high level of service delivery through timely and ongoing communication, presence, and visibility. Provides “real time” customer assistance during Medical Examiner referrals and cases.
  • Markets, develops, and provides education, information and consultation to Medical Examiners and Funeral Directors to ensure all aspects of the donation process are understood, supported, practiced, and implemented.
  • Secures and maintains OCME support for donation and strives for a zero OCME organ and tissue donation restriction rate.
  • Strategically assesses and proactively responds to individual customer needs in quality assurance, policy development, and shared mutual feedback.
  • Fosters collaboration, communication, and collegiality with all employees for the purpose of fully supporting the donation process. Serves as an internal resource for the purpose of ensuring seamless service to OCME and funeral home customers.
  • Prepares goals and maintains current profiles to ensure comprehensive customer information, with timely information entered in the organization’s database.
  • Collaborates with external OCME and Funeral Director liaisons to share and leverage national best practices in developing resources and programs that promote donation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Working Conditions :

    This position requires consistent availability and frequent travel, along with certain physical, language, and communication abilities, including :

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents, with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed.
  • May require extended hours and travel.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable personal automobile to be used with company reimbursement, using IRS guidelines.
  • Standing, walking, and lifting associated with OCME activities. Ability to transfer objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate telephones and computers.
  • Vision correctable to 20 / 20 to read electronic medical charts and computer screens. Frequent and prolonged use of computer screen may produce visual fatigue.
  • Possible mental fatigue and stress associated with emergencies and management issues.
  • Ability to accurately communicate, converse, and exchange information in English over the telephone and in person.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft Windows environment and demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office software programs.
  • This position is Level 1 – High level exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and TB. Staff members are in a hospital setting and have direct contact with donors or donor organs and tissues through donor management, recovery, and processing.
