Job Overview:
Our client, a large state government health and human services organization, is seeking a versatile Senior System Administrator / DevOps Engineer to manage, maintain, and optimize a critical Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) application environment. This role combines traditional system administration with modern cloud-native DevOps practices, including building a Proof of Concept to re-architect a legacy Java/J2EE application on AWS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers on AWS EC2 instances
- Administer and troubleshoot Java/J2EE applications on WebLogic application servers (JDBC, connection pools, JVM tuning)
- Provide system-level support for Oracle RDS in collaboration with DBA teams
- Monitor system performance and availability using Dynatrace and CloudWatch
- Build a POC to rebuild the legacy application using modern AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3) and microservices architecture
- Develop POC for migrating codebase from WebLogic to JBoss and Oracle RDS to PostgreSQL
- Automate administrative tasks using Shell, Python, Jython, and WLST scripting
- Collaborate with development, testing, and operations teams to support smooth software delivery
Required Skills:
- AWS cloud services: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration
- WebLogic application server administration and Java/J2EE support
- Oracle RDS (system administration perspective)
- GitLab and CI/CD practices
- Scripting: Shell, Python
- Containerization experience
- Networking concepts and cloud security best practices
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Dynatrace monitoring

Location & Work Model:
Hybrid — Massachusetts. Maximum 37.5 hours per week, no overtime.
Engagement Details:
W-2 hourly contract. Candidate must be available to start approximately 3 weeks after accepting the offer.
