Job Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Data Center / Compute Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain a high-performing compute farm within a large engineering lab environment. This role will work closely with system architects, hardware/software engineers, QA, and platform operations teams to build, deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain next-generation computing systems.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with data center infrastructure, Linux/Windows administration, DCIM, scripting, networking, hardware deployments, and compute environments.
Key Responsibilities
Compute Farm & Infrastructure Management
- Manage and maintain a high-performing compute farm supporting builders, packagers, testers, and core infrastructure.
- Monitor infrastructure health, availability, throughput, and system performance.
- Ensure infrastructure consistently meets availability targets, SLAs, and operational metrics.
- Lead system recovery and restoration efforts during hardware or infrastructure failures.
- Implement improvements to increase availability, throughput, reliability, and test accuracy.
System & Infrastructure Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot Linux, Windows, hardware, networking, and infrastructure issues in collaboration with engineering and platform operations teams.
- Support hardware and software engineering teams with system-level technical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving compute, storage, networking, and associated infrastructure.
- Assist with system deployments, hardware bring-up, and troubleshooting of components such as PCBs and GPUs.
Automation & DCIM
- Use DCIM platforms such as Nautobot to manage and maintain infrastructure information.
- Develop and maintain automation and scripting using:
- Shell/Bash
- Python
- Ansible
- Automate repetitive infrastructure and operational tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
Networking & Core Services
- Troubleshoot and support infrastructure services and protocols including:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- NFS
- SSL/TLS
- Support compute, storage, and networking infrastructure within dense data center environments.
Documentation & Metrics
- Gather, analyze, and report critical infrastructure and operational metrics.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.
- Clearly communicate technical issues, resolutions, and operational processes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with:
- System Architects
- Hardware Engineers
- Software Engineers
- QA Engineers
- Platform Operations
- Infrastructure Teams
- Participate in product development, system deployment, debugging, testing, and release activities.
- Explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5 years of experience working with data center technology, large engineering labs, or comparable infrastructure environments.
- Strong experience with DCIM platforms, preferably Nautobot or similar tools.
- Proficiency with infrastructure scripting and automation using Shell/Bash, Python, and Ansible.
- Working knowledge of:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- NFS
- SSL/TLS
- Hands-on administration and troubleshooting experience with:
- Linux
- Windows
- MacOS
- Hands-on experience with PCBs, GPUs, hardware systems, and system deployments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing HPC clusters.
- Experience with Bright Cluster Manager (BCM) and Slurm.
- CCNA or equivalent networking certification.
- Strong Windows and Linux system administration background.
- Experience with dense data center design, including:
- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure and liquid cooling technologies.
- Mechanically inclined with the ability and willingness to perform hands-on physical hardware tasks.
- Experience working in large-scale engineering labs or high-performance computing environments.
