Founded in 1981, ITC is a nonprofit early education center with an emergent, play-based, nature-rich, and Reggio-inspired approach. We view children as capable, curious, and full of ideas. Our educators observe, listen, document, and develop responsive curriculum as children’s interests and questions unfold.
About the Position:
The Infant/Toddler Educator will work closely with teaching colleagues and families to create a warm, responsive, and engaging environment in which every child is known, understood, and celebrated.
Key Responsibilities:
- Genuine passion for early childhood education and a deep commitment to supporting children, families, and educators in a mission-driven school environment.
- Sophisticated understanding of infant, toddler, and preschool development and the ability to translate developmental insight into sound decisions.
- Build respectful and responsive relationships with children and their families.
- Learn and honor each child’s interests, cues, routines, temperament, and developmental needs.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to develop emergent, play-based curriculum through observation, documentation, and reflection.
- Plan meaningful experiences involving open-ended materials, art, music, movement, sensory exploration, and nature.
- Respect each child’s individual rhythms during feeding, sleeping, diapering, play, and transitions.
- Communicate openly and thoughtfully with families.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and reflective conversations.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom that meets EEC requirements.
Key Qualifications:
- Massachusetts EEC Infant–Toddler Teacher certification required; Infant–Toddler Lead Teacher certification preferred.
- Three or more years of early childhood classroom experience preferred, including direct experience caring for and teaching infants.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred. Advanced study and ongoing professional learning are highly valued.
- Strong understanding of infant and toddler development, with the ability to translate developmental knowledge into responsive caregiving, thoughtful curriculum, and sound classroom decisions.
- Familiarity with—or a sincere interest in—the Reggio Emilia philosophy, emergent curriculum, and pedagogical documentation.
- Genuine passion for early childhood education and a deep commitment to supporting children, families, and colleagues in a mission-driven school community.
- Demonstrated ability to create a high-quality infant classroom and contribute thoughtfully to curriculum and program development.
- Strong observation, documentation, and reflective-practice skills.
- A warm, calm presence combined with creativity, adaptability, and confidence in decision-making.
- Strong time-management, organizational, and self-management skills, including initiative, dependability, and follow-through.
- Ability to balance responsibilities independently while recognizing when collaboration or additional support is needed.
- Willingness to adapt and step in where needed to support program continuity and children’s well-being.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the wider ITC community.
- Commitment to teamwork, collaborative learning, and respectful, growth-oriented conversations.
