The Position: The Logistics Specialist/Fleet Manager is responsible for managing the styrene monomer rail fleet to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective transport of product. This role ensures that sufficient rail resources are available to support operations and that fleet movements align with safety, compliance, and efficiency standards. The position also leads fleet lease management and railcar maintenance oversight, while collaborating with internal teams and external logistics partners to ensure uninterrupted product flow.
What you will do:
- Oversee daily railcar operations, including routing, transit tracking, empty return coordination, and fleet scaling to meet safety and delivery requirements.
- Maintain and optimize the fleet sizing tool, aligning railcar availability with plant demand and operational shifts across styrene loading locations.
- Manage railcar maintenance activity and spending; review vendor invoices for accuracy and monitor repair status.
- Negotiate and manage lease agreements, track lease expirations, evaluate fleet needs, and develop vendor relationships to meet commercial goals.
- Approve lease-related invoices and prepare monthly accrual reports to ensure financial accuracy and alignment with budget targets.
- Support logistics execution by tracing, repositioning railcars, maintaining fleet records, and reporting on KPIs tied to on-time delivery, carrier performance, and fleet utilization. Act as a key liaison with Customer Service, Account Managers, and Supply Planning to ensure smooth logistics operations and resolve fleet-related issues.
What you will bring:
Level of education & knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field. (preferred)
- or
Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical logistics or supply chain.
Experience in general:
- 3–5 years of railroad logistics experience or equivalent combination of logistics experience and education.
Technical skills:
- In-depth understanding of how demand, production, and inventory dynamics impact rail logistics.
- Proficient in SAP and familiar with 3rd party transportation systems; TMS experience is a plus. Strong data analysis skills with the ability to translate insights into clear recommendations or actions.
