- A 15-minute mock lesson is part of the interview. You will teach a short beginner lesson in person, in Carmel, to our staff acting as students. We send you a step-by-step guide in advance.
- Available to teach in person in Carmel, IN (evenings and/or weekends).
About the job
Then we are inviting you to join our team to educate adult language learners at our school in Carmel, Indiana! This is an excellent part-time opportunity for anyone passionate about sharing their language and culture with motivated adult learners. We offer regular flexible work with bi-weekly pay.
Indy Language Center is a private language school serving adult learners who want to communicate in their new language. We are building a roster of qualified Japanese instructors (part-time, contract, 2–10 hours/week, $25–$35/hour).
Our sister company, Indy Translations, also offers interpreting and translation assignments to qualified team members.
What you will do
- Teach in-person group (up to 12) and private lessons to adult beginners through advanced learners
- Plan lessons that get students speaking — at least 70% of class time spent on practice and production, not lecture
- Track attendance and progress in our online class system
Required
- 1 year of language teaching experience (shown on resume)
- Native or near-native fluency in Japanese (including hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji)
- Willingness to deliver a 15-minute mock lesson during the interview
- Reliable commute to Carmel, IN
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, linguistics, or education
- Japanese-language teacher training, or JLPT N1 for non-native speakers
- Native speaker, or time living or working in Japan
- Interpreting or translation experience
