Senior Acoustic Test Engineer (Onsite: Indianapolis, IN)
Indy Acoustic Research (www.IndyAcousticResearch.com) is seeking a Senior Acoustic Test Engineer who will lead Indy Acoustic Research’s future of testing of speakers, microphones and telecommunications products. This person should be well versed using Listen Soundcheck to create new test methodologies and implement sequences as well as Excel for data plotting and manipulation. The candidate should have extreme attention to detail and be able to identify and debug electrical, software, acoustic, networking and audio issues. An understanding of the practical principles of acoustic wave propagation including diffraction, wall effects, and underlying mathematical formulations is required. Must be a self-starter who can work in a small, dynamic group environment and will be responsible for managing projects, clients, analysis and reporting of measurement results end-to-end. This person will conduct acoustic measurements in an Anechoic chamber, Sound booth, or Recording room and compile and summarize results into clear reports for clients. This person should be able to write small data manipulation and translation scripts with with languages such as Python, Matlab, LabView, VBA, VBScript, Unix Shell, C#, and SQL.
Example Duties:
- Set up and calibrate acoustic/audio test equipment
- Create and run SoundCheck acoustic test scripts on microphones and speakers to obtain frequency response, polar pattern, distortion and other metrics.
- Obtaining MOS-based metrics on devices such as POLQA, 3QUEST and EQUEST
- Data analysis and statistical summaries using Matlab, Python or Excel and data plotting and manipulation
- Creation of acoustic performance reports via Word and PowerPoint, and oral presentation of analysis that will be shared with customers as deliverables.
- Lead testing iterations during product tuning using Graphical DSP tuning tools from NXP, Qualcomm, Realtek, WaveLock, XMOS, TI, Cirrus Logic and others.
- Write VBA or C# scripts to automatically process or manipulate Excel/CSV data and Data collection.
- Other tasks as needed (this is a microbusiness, we all wear many hats)
Required Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to speak and write fluent English
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel)
- Self-Directed and able to work and innovate without supervision, including self-taught learning of new software and hardware.
- Minimum second-year University level completion of Physics, Calculus, and specialized engineering courses.
Desired Qualifications:
- General knowledge of in-air Acoustics and Acoustic measures such as: Hertz, dB(SPL), frequency weighting, averaging, and wave propagation theory
- Familiarity with Raspberry Pi platform, and Linux shell
- Ability to code in Matlab, Visual Basic/VBA, C#, LabView or Python
- Ability to solder
- Mechanical design experience using 3D CAD software
- Experience with 3D printing and fabrication
