Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pyrometry Service & Calibration Technician to support our thermal processing and compliance operations. This role is responsible for performing calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of thermal processing equipment in accordance with AMS2750 and NADCAP requirements. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with temperature uniformity surveys (TUS), system accuracy tests (SAT), and instrumentation calibration in aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform temperature uniformity surveys (TUS) and system accuracy tests (SAT) in compliance with AMS2750 standards
- Calibrate thermocouples, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and control systems
- Conduct on-site and in-house pyrometry services for furnaces, ovens, and heat-treat equipment
- Interpret and apply AMS2750 and NADCAP requirements to ensure full compliance
- Maintain accurate calibration records, reports, and certifications
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and recommend corrective actions
- Support internal and external audits (including NADCAP audits)
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety and quality procedures
- Assist in developing and improving calibration procedures and documentation
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (bachelor’s or associate degree, or technical certification preferred)
- 2 years of experience in pyrometry, calibration, or heat treatment environments (5 years of experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of AMS2750 standards
- Familiarity with NADCAP accreditation requirements and audit processes
- Experience performing TUS and SAT
- Experience with instrument and gage calibration, including but not limited to: controls, recorders, pressure & vacuum gages, pH measurement devices, thermometers (digital and analog), relative humidity devices, conductivity testers, and multimeters
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Proficiency with calibration tools, data loggers, and measurement instruments
- Valid driver’s license and clean DMV driving record report
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace or automotive manufacturing
- Certification in calibration or metrology (e.g., ASQ, NCSLI, or equivalent)
- Understanding of uncertainty calculations, budgets, and measurement traceability
- Experience with ISO 17025 or similar quality systems
- Electrical or instrumentation troubleshooting skills
- Combustion, SCADA, PLC, or Process Systems experience
Work Environment & Travel
- Field based position with occasional periods at home shop
- Daily field travel required
- Occasional overnight travel required up to 15% of time
- Ability to lift equipment and work in industrial settings (heat, confined spaces, noise, odors, etc.)
