Supervises: Shop Fabrication Employees in range of 10 people up to 20
Job Summary
Metal Fabrication Shop Manager oversees the schedule and production of operations in a 40,000 SF shop. They will be primarily responsible for the scheduling, organizing and production of shop labor with day-to-day duties to monitor productivity, quality control and safety as established in the company business plan.
Core Job Duties
- Scheduling multiple work stations and employees on the shop floor which include plasma cutting, press break, material cutting, rolling, welding and overall metal fabrication processes.
- Report to and taking directions from VP of Operations and Division Manager for fabrication work product completion dates as communicated to clients & work closely with shop floor foreman.
- Communicate fabrication budgets, quality, & schedule expectations to employees; planning, monitoring, evaluating, and reviewing job schedules and manpower.
- Relay operations information (status) and recommendations to VP of Ops and Division Manager; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve shop floor production issues.
- Work closely with purchasing group to ensure start of work date and current storage requirements for projects to begin for schedule.
- Working knowledge of multiple metal fabrication types including carbon, stainless, aluminum, some CuNi, and some INVAR welding process.
- High degree of fabrication drawing knowledge & interpretation with the ability to answer question of shop floor foreman.
- Lead by example a safe to promote an injury/accident free workplace while maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Qualifications
Having 12 years of experience in shop fabrication or in a manufacturing related area is required. Need formidable leadership experience & a prodigious desire to complete tasks. Candidates with extensive shop floor scheduling experience along with judgment to plan and accomplish goals will fit in well. Must have the following skills and proficiencies:
- Past shop fabrication scheduling experience
- Leadership which includes being Self-Organized
- Customer Relationship Driven
- People Management (internal, external, vendors, etc)
- Excel Spreadsheet & other Software Proficiencies
- Under Budget Delivery Mentality
- Planning, Delegation and Organizing of Teams
- Conflict Management within an Organization
- Must have a driver license in good standing
Working Conditions
General working conditions are in an office environment while supervising a . 40,000 SF shop located on 3 acres of yard. Outside working conditions may include snow, ice, and high winds with gusts up to 50 MPH. Employees are regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, potential fall exposure, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and extreme heat, and high noise levels.
Physical Requirements
Employees will need to be able to access tight areas at client locations to see the work. This will include the need to maneuver up and down stairs, ladders, and equipment at various elevations. Position also requires hand manipulative skills for computer work. Must be able to hear verbal conversations over the phone and in-person with background noise. Requires the ability to work standing up or sitting down. Must have visual ability and stamina to view computer screens for and occasionally work long shifts due to client needs and IRI contract(s).
