Position: Combo Pipe Welder
Reports to: Foreman, General Foreman or Superintendent

Status: Regular Full-time; Non-exempt
Job Location: Leland, NC Shop (with some travel)
Job Summary
3-5 years and above documented field experience chosen craft discipline with the ability to read and interpret instructions. The ability to document, plan and perform work activities independently.
Our family owned, and operated company is looking for skilled Combo Pipe Welders who have experience with Industrial Construction and Equipment Maintenance. We are a very fast-growing company who is looking to expand our core team with honest hard-working employees.
Job Responsibilities
· Must be able to observe and recognize problems during the welding process and adjust speed, voltage, amperage, or feed of the rod accordingly.
· Must be able to read and interpret blue prints and plans.
· Minimum of 3-5 years experience required. Perform code (ASME, AWS or API) compliant welds using GMAW, SMAW, GTAW & FCAW processes.
· Properly use fabrication shop hand tools. (Grinders, drills, air tools, etc.). Operate forklifts & overhead cranes. Operate vertical / horizontal band saws.
· Rig, hoist/lift & move materials. Maintain safe and clean work environment. Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Weld Test: Must be able to weld qualification test coupon for; FCAW and/or GMAW welding process in the 3G & 4G position using Carbon Steel plate.
· SMAW and GTAW welding processes in the 6G position with Carbon and/or Stainless-Steel pipe.
Weld Test
· 2” Diameter, carbon steel super coupon (5/8" thick) 6G position
· Option GTAW / SMAW: Tig the root and hot pass with 70 series filler and stick the remainder with 7018 electrodes.
· Option GTAW: Tig the root and all remainder with 70 series filler
· The welder will be required to prep each of the pipe halves to their preference prior to tacking.
· GTAW root pass will be without a purge.
· The welder must cut and prepare 4 - side bend specimens 3/8" thick from the pipe coupon.
· The welding supervisor will inspect the specimens for proper preparation prior to bending and again after bending the specimens must be acceptable per ASME section IX requirements.
· The test must be completed within 4 hours including cutting, prepping and bending of the specimens.
· The welder will not be paid for time spent on a failing test.
Job Qualifications
· 3-5 years proven experience.
· OSHA 10 Preferred but not required.
· High School Diploma / GED
