Refrigeration Technician
The Industrial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing industrial refrigeration systems and equipment. This role ensures optimal system performance, safety, and compliance with industry regulations. The technician will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support plant operations by keeping refrigeration systems reliable and efficient.
Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Setup

Install and commission industrial refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and controls.

Ensure systems are installed in compliance with engineering specifications and safety standards.

Maintenance & Repair

Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of ammonia and Freon-based refrigeration systems.

Repair or replace faulty components such as valves, motors, pumps, and electrical wiring.

Monitor oil levels, pressures, and system performance to prevent breakdowns.

System Monitoring

Adjust and calibrate control systems, including PLCs, sensors, and automated monitoring systems.

Track operating conditions, log performance data, and make recommendations for efficiency improvements.

Safety & Compliance

Follow all OSHA, EPA, and industry-specific safety guidelines, particularly regarding ammonia handling.

Maintain records of inspections, maintenance activities, and compliance reports.

Participate in emergency response procedures in case of refrigerant leaks or system failures.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to minimize downtime.

Train operators and junior technicians on equipment use and safety procedures.

Communicate technical issues clearly to supervisors and management.

Qualifications

Education & Certification
-
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.

EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification required.

RETA (Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association) certification preferred.

Ammonia safety training and forklift certification a plus.

Experience
-
3 years of hands-on experience in industrial refrigeration systems (ammonia, CO₂, Freon, or cascade systems).

Strong background in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and PLC-controlled systems.

Skills

Proficiency with refrigeration system diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.

Strong mechanical aptitude and electrical troubleshooting skills.
