U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY MIAMI in MIAMI BEACH, Florida.

To qualify for the Marine Machinery Mechanic Leader, WL-5334-10, applicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position: Job Element #73: Ability To Lead or Supervise (Screen-out Element) to be considered eligible for the position. Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. To meet the screen-out examples of the duties includes:

  • Ability to Lead or Supervise (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT)
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Materials
  • Troubleshooting

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

You will serve as a Marine Machinery Mechanic Leader and be responsible for performing major overhaul and repairs on all types of machinery and mechanical equipment aboard Coast Guard vessels and stations or used in support of Coast Guard missions.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Removing machinery from boats, ships, or stations for repairs or modifications.
  • Disassembling and repairing and testing machinery such as marine diesel engines, both mobile and stationary.
  • Disassembling all components of engines such as cylinder heads, fuel systems, lubrication systems, cooling systems, blowers, and turbo chargers.
  • Installing and repairing weight handling machinery, hydraulic systems and components, anchor windlasses, boat davits, cranes and other deck machinery.
  • Serving as a work leader receiving work assignments from supervisor and passing them to assigned Marine Machinery Mechanics.
  • Demonstrating appropriate work procedures and techniques.
  • Checking on work in progress and reporting status to supervisor.
