Branch Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Industrial Pipe and Valve, Inc. is seeking an experienced Branch Manager to lead the day-to-day operation and financial performance of a full-service pipe, valve, and fitting (PVF) distribution branch. This role carries full profit and loss responsibility: the Branch Manager owns revenue growth, gross margin, inventory investment, operating expenses, and the overall profitability of the location.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands industrial distribution from the counter to the customer’s jobsite. You will build and develop the branch team, strengthen relationships with contractors, industrial plants, and MRO accounts, and run a safe, efficient, well-stocked operation that customers rely on.

FINANCIAL AND P&L RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the branch P&L; deliver annual sales, gross margin, operating expense, and net income targets.
• Prepare, defend, and manage to the annual branch budget and monthly forecast.
• Review financial statements monthly, explain variances, and take corrective action on underperformance.
• Set and enforce pricing and margin discipline across quotes, contract pricing, and counter sales.
• Manage inventory investment, turns, and dead/obsolete stock; balance service levels against carrying cost.
• Partner with accounting on customer credit limits, collections, and days sales outstanding (DSO).
• Control controllable expenses — labor, freight, vehicles, facility, and supplies — without compromising service.

SALES AND CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive top-line growth through new account development and expansion of existing industrial, contractor, and MRO customers.
• Lead and coach the inside, outside sales team; set activity expectations and hold the team accountable to them.
• Maintain personal relationships with key accounts; participate in major quotes, negotiations, and problem resolution.
• Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, and project opportunities within the branch territory.
• Work with vendors and manufacturer representatives on pricing support, stocking programs, training, and joint sales calls.
• Ensure quotes and orders are accurate, competitive, and delivered on time.

OPERATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee warehouse operations including receiving, put-away, picking, staging, shipping, and delivery.
• Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, physical inventories, and disciplined transaction handling.
• Ensure product is stored, handled, and documented correctly, including material test reports and traceability where required.
• Manage branch fleet, equipment, and facility maintenance.
• Enforce all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and DOT regulations; lead safety meetings and drive a zero-incident culture.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, quality procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit, hire, train, and retain a capable branch team; build bench strength for key positions.
• Set clear goals, conduct performance reviews, coach in real time, and address performance issues promptly.
• Schedule and allocate staffing to match workload and service commitments.
• Foster a professional, accountable, customer-first culture at every touchpoint in the branch.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required 5 years of experience in industrial distribution, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Working knowledge of pipe, valves, and fittings — carbon steel, stainless, alloy, flanges, actuation, and related products.
• Demonstrated ability to read and manage a P&L and make decisions based on financial results.
• Proven track record of growing sales and gross margin in a branch, territory, or business unit.
• Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proficiency with ERP/distribution software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, engineering, or a related field — or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience selling to industrial plants, EPC contractors, mechanical contractors, or oil and gas end users.
• Familiarity with ASME, ASTM, and API specifications and material traceability requirements.
• Experience with inventory planning, purchasing, and vendor negotiation.

Pay: $69,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
