Position: 2nd shift Mill Supervisor – Hastings
Department: Machine Milling
Direct Supervisor: Production Manager
Work shift is 2:45 pm - 1:30 am Monday - Thursday. Overtime Friday/Saturday/Sunday depending on business needs
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Supervise mill employees, meet productions goals, verify quality, prepare for shift transitions, and maintain a safe and clean department. Assist shift supervisor as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervision: supervise mill employees (30 )
- Safety: enforce safety, monitor the workplace for safety violations and potential hazards, and help implement new safety programs
- Efficiency: optimize production processes to meet production goals in the mill on each machine
- Quality: verify quality of parts and assemblies using the Quality Assurance Program
- Department Functions: set up and operate machines as needed
- Continuous Improvement – 6S: ensure department cleanliness, 6S
- Maintenance: ensure maintenance of equipment
- Shift Transitions: organize shift transitions
- Assist production manager
- Meet Elevated Attendance Standards
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to lift and carry 25 pounds constantly
- Able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently
- Able to stand/walk for an entire shift
- Able to read a tape measure
- Able and willing to work outside normal shift schedule
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Possess basic computer skills
- LOTO trained for all machines in mill
- Forklift certified through Quality One within 3 months
- Able to communicate effectively and efficiently in English (orally and in writing)
JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS:
- May be exposed to noise levels greater than or equal to 85 decibels for up to 10 hours.
- Must be able to work in moderate levels of wood dust.
- May be exposed to moderate levels of carbon monoxide.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervision: supervise mill employees
- Ensure efficient employee startups at the beginning of the shift and after breaks
- Administer performance reviews on time, give praise/discipline employees
- Monitor attendance and vacation requests
- Train new employees
- Facilitate rotation of employees
- Interview/hire new employees
- Safety: enforce safety, monitor the workplace for safety violations and potential hazards, and help implement new safety programs
- Train new employees
- Enforce dress code and PPE are worn
- Perform emergency and accident procedures to company standards along with completing accident reports, close calls, and safety violations
- First aid and CPR trained
- LOTO trained for all equipment in assembly
- Efficiency: optimize production processes to meet production goals in the mill on each machine.
- Quality: verify quality of parts and assemblies using the Quality Assurance Program
- Department Functions: set up and operate machines as needed
- Continuous Improvement – 6S: ensure department cleanliness, 6S
- Actively participate in implementation and sustainment of 6S’s: Sort, Straighten, Scrub, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety
- Follow processes correctly as described in the Sustainment Schedule
- Contribute ideas for 30-day action log for continuous improvement
- Maintenance: ensure maintenance of equipment
- Work with maintenance department on completion of routine and emergency maintenance
- Complete maintenance request forms
- Perform basic machine repairs
- Shift Transitions: organize shift transitions
- Communicate to on coming supervisor
- Ensure production paperwork is accurate and complete
- Enter parts into inventory at end of shift
- Assist production manager
- Order products that are assigned to you
- Complete special projects within expected time frames
- Fill in for absent supervisors in other departments

- 3 occurrences: written warning
