What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Automation Engineer position at Industrial Automation Solutions?
Industrial Automation Solutions (IAS) is a rapidly growing automation and controls engineering firm based in Lafayette, Louisiana, specializing in high-impact, real-world automation systems for manufacturing, water treatment, and industrial processing.
We don’t just “add automation”—we engineer complete, production-critical systems that increase throughput, eliminate bottlenecks, and stabilize operations. Our work spans PLC programming, robotics, VFD systems, machine integration, automation packaging, and full turnkey solutions.
IAS is known for solving complex problems that others avoid—whether it’s commissioning entire production lines, rebuilding legacy systems, or integrating new technologies into live operations without downtime.
Our focus is simple: deliver automation that actually works in the field.
Role Description – PLC Programmer / Controls Engineer
This is a full-time, on-site role in Lafayette, LA for a high-level PLC Programmer / Controls Engineer.
This is not a basic programming role—we’re looking for engineers who can take ownership of systems from concept through commissioning.
You will be responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning industrial control systems in real production environments. This includes working directly on-site with equipment, diagnosing issues under pressure, and delivering systems that run reliably.
What You’ll Be Doing
Develop and modify PLC programs for complex automation systems
Commission and troubleshoot systems in the field (this is hands-on, real equipment)
Integrate PLCs with HMIs, SCADA systems, VFDs, and robotics
Work with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, etc.)
Read, interpret, and debug electrical schematics and control panels
Optimize system performance, reliability, and throughput
Support system startups, shutdowns, and emergency troubleshooting
Collaborate directly with engineers, technicians, and customers on-site
Create clean, structured, and maintainable code—not patchwork fixes
What We’re Looking For
We need top-tier programmers who can think independently and perform in real-world conditions—not just write code in an office.
Core Requirements
Strong experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell (ControlLogix, CompactLogix)
Solid understanding of industrial control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA)
Experience with industrial communications:
Ethernet/IP
Modbus TCP/RTU
(Bonus: Profibus, Profinet)
Ability to troubleshoot live systems under pressure
Experience with commissioning and startup of equipment
Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Highly Valued Experience (Big Plus)
VFD integration and tuning (Danfoss, ABB, etc.)
Robotics integration (Fanuc or similar)
Process control (flow, pressure, temperature systems)
Packaging, manufacturing, or water treatment systems
SCADA development and remote monitoring systems
What Sets You Apart
You don’t wait for instructions—you figure it out
You can walk up to a broken system and diagnose it quickly
You understand how programming impacts real-world production
You build systems that are stable, scalable, and clean
Additional Info
Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed
Strong communication skills when working directly with customers and teams
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field is a plus (but real-world experience matters more)
Why IAS
At IAS, you won’t be stuck doing repetitive work or maintaining legacy code all day.
You’ll be:
Building real systems
Building industrial machinery
Solving real problems
Working on high-impact projects
Growing fast with a company that’s expanding aggressively
If you want, I can also:
Make a more aggressive “headhunting” version (to attract top talent fast)
Or a lighter version for LinkedIn posting vs job boards
Or tailor it specifically to 3–4 hires like you mentioned earlier
