What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Firmware Engineer - FPGA position at INDRA AIR TRAFFIC INC?
**We are located in Overland Park, KS, but are moving to Olathe, KS within 2026 into a new facility**
The Sr. Firmware Engineer assists in the design & implementation of software and embedded firmware, used for Indra Navigational and Surveillance products.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for Embedded Software and Firmware development used for Ground-Based Radio Navigational Aids (NAVAIDS), Surveillance Radios (ADS-B/WAM), and other systems as assigned.
- Support Embedded Software & Firmware development through activities including requirements gathering, design, coding, integration (software, firmware, and hardware), validation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Participate in design review process to ensure adherence to customer requirements and internal processes are being met.
Software Development
- Programming & Coding: C/C , Python, MATLAB, Visual Studio
- Ability to read schematics and use basic electronic trouble shooting tools (DMM)
- Environments: Windows & Linux Environments
Reporting, Standards, & Compliance
- Responsible for maintaining work on assigned schedules to enable tracking, reporting, and meeting development requirements.
- Perform development in accordance with Indra internal processes, customer requirements and industry standards.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors or Masters from an ABET accredited College or University in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
- 5-7 years of embedded software development, firmware, FPGA development (5 Required)
Strong experience in FPGA firmware development and signal processing on embedded systems.
- Proficiency in VHDL for digital design and implementation.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, etc.).
- Familiarity with simulation, verification, and hardware debugging tools (e.g., Vivado, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG).
Preferred / Plus
- Experience with low-level C/C programming for embedded systems.
- Experience with version control and collaborative development tools (e.g., Git, SVN).

- Must be able to pass a U.S. government background check investigation.
