What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operation Lead position at Indoor Pickleball X - Brooklyn?
About IPX Brooklyn
IPX Brooklyn is New York City's largest dedicated indoor pickleball facility. With 13 professional courts, a dedicated gym area, shower facilities, a party/event area, and a 3rd-party vendor service space, we are the premier destination for pickleball enthusiasts in New York City. Our philosophy is simple: work, play, chill — a 24/7 home for NYC pickleballers, all year round. Affiliated with the successful IPX pickleball brand with locations in Texas and California, we are looking for passionate, community-driven people to join our team and be part of something the city has never seen before.
Position Overview: The Operations Lead is the onsite manager responsible for keeping IPX Brooklyn running at its best every single day. You are the person who ensures the facility is clean, safe, and organized; that courts are properly scheduled and utilized; that every member and guest has a great experience; and that the Membership Specialist team is trained, scheduled, and performing at a high level. This is a hands-on, floor-level leadership role that requires presence, accountability, and a sharp eye for detail.
Compensation & Structure: This is an hourly W-2 position compensated at $22.00 per hour. The role requires a full-time, fixed onsite schedule of approximately 40–45 hours per week. We process payroll weekly to ensure reliable, timely compensation. A meaningful performance bonus structure will be discussed and finalized during the hiring process.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Operations
You will oversee the day-to-day physical operation of the facility, ensuring all courts, common areas, locker rooms, and amenities are clean, functional, and ready for use at all times. You will conduct regular walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance issues, coordinate with vendors and service providers for repairs and supplies, and ensure all equipment is in proper working condition. You are responsible for upholding and enforcing all facility policies — including court etiquette, safety protocols, and house rules — consistently and professionally.
Court & Schedule Management
You will manage the court booking schedule, ensuring optimal utilization across open play, reserved sessions, lessons, leagues, and events. You will collaborate with relevant team members to accommodate scheduled programming and resolve any scheduling conflicts in real time. You will also manage the daily onsite schedule, ensuring the right staff coverage is in place for every shift and that operations run without gaps.
Customer Experience
You will serve as the primary point of contact for member and guest concerns during your shift, handling inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a timely and professional manner. You will set the tone for the member experience on the floor — greeting players, resolving issues on the spot, and ensuring every visit to IPX Brooklyn reflects our standards of hospitality and community.
Team Management
You will directly manage the Membership Specialist team, including day-to-day task assignment, shift scheduling, and ongoing training. You will onboard new Membership Specialists, develop their product knowledge and customer service skills, and conduct regular performance check-ins to maintain a high-performing front-of-house team.
Safety & Compliance
You will ensure the facility meets all safety and hygiene standards at all times. This includes overseeing cleaning schedules, managing emergency procedures, ensuring first aid resources are accessible and up to date, and maintaining compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in facility operations, gym management, hospitality, or a related customer-facing operational role. Proven experience in managing and scheduling a team is required. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of a physical space and the people within it. Strong communication skills, a calm demeanor under pressure, and a genuine passion for creating great member experiences are essential. A background in sports or fitness environments is a strong plus.
