What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Technician position at Indigo?
From Day One, you will have a hands‑on focus on fusion splicing, carrying out critical fibre terminations—including ribbon splicing—and playing a central role in telecoms deployment and maintenance across the Portland region. You’ll work with advanced teams to pull and secure fibre, perform commissioning activities, handle maintenance calls, and shape the resilience of high-speed networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Day‑1 fusion splicing and termination of fibre cables (including ribbon splicing) using professional equipment
- Fibre and cable pulling, dressing, labelling, and securing
- Installation of metalwork, basket work, rack and stack hardware
- Carrying out OTDR, Ethernet/OSA testing and electrical connectivity (240 V AC / 48 V DC)
- Execution of new build deployment and first-line maintenance within SLAs
- Prompt fault-finding and hardware replacement in partnership with Technical Assistance Centre
- On‑call out-of-hours support on a scheduled rota
- Completion of all documentation and reporting within SLA
- Adherence to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards
About You
- Certified fusion splicing expertise—with capability to hit the ground running on Day One
- Solid practical experience in fibre and copper cable terminations, OTDR and Ethernet/OSA testing
- Skilled in cable pulling, rack installation, and hardware setup
- Strong fault diagnosis ability and SLA accountability
- Operates confidently under pressure in dynamic, field-based environments
- Holds a valid, full driver’s licence
